The Gospel

The gospel is the good news. For there to be good news, we must first know what the bad news is. The bad news is that we are all sinners who have sinned against a holy and righteous God. Romans 3:23 makes it clear that every human being has sinned. The bad news gets even worse, as the Bible tells us in Romans 6:23 that as a result of our sin we deserve spiritual death, which the Bible calls hell. We believe the Bible teaches that sinners will face the wrath of God in a real place called hell. There is nothing that humans can do to earn or merit salvation, as the Bible teaches in Ephesians 2:8.

For God so loved the world.

God said in John chapter 3:

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Those who trust Jesus, are given by Jesus salvation and eternal life. Jesus gives us his righteousness to appear holy and blameless before God. Only the work of Jesus can withstand the judgement of God, and only those covered by His blood will be saved. To believe in Jesus, we confess him as Lord and submit to His Lordship (Romans 10:9-10). To confess Jesus as Lord means to say publicly and privately that Jesus is my master. To submit to the Lordship of Jesus means to obey His commandments. This is not a robotic or mechanic confession but rather a statement that comes from the heart. If we believe in Jesus and that God raised from the dead, and we confess him as Lord, the Bible promises us that we have eternal life.
